5 Fat Burning Foods

Let the food do the work! Recipes4theWeek put together a list of 5 fat burning foods and included a recipe you can make with each food. Try one, try them all but these foods are helpful in burning fat

1. Avocado
Avocados are rich in vitamin B6, which counteracts the cortisol (which is a stress hormone that is responsible for building belly fat). Avocado is a fat itself but it’s a healthy fat that helps regulate certain fat genes.

WHAT SHOULD YOU MAKE: Guacamole

2. Sweet Potatoes
Sweet Potatoes are low calorie and high fiber. Fiber is important in losing weight for a couple reasons. It takes up more room in your stomach therefore keeping you full for longer. This prevents overeating. Fiber also takes longer to digest, again preventing overeating.

WHAT SHOULD YOU MAKE: Pancakes (substitute sweet potatoes for traditional batter)

3. Black Beans
Similar to sweet potatoes, black beans are high fiber and low calorie. So again, the high fiber will keep you fuller for longer and takes longer to digest. Fun fact: 10-20% of starch in beans never gets digested at all. It’s also been shown that eating beans regularly knocks down high blood sugar, lowers blood pressure and cuts the risk of heart disease. 1 cup of beans = 12 grams of fiber.

WHAT SHOULD YOU MAKE: Cuban Black Bean Soup

4. Sun Dried Tomatoes
The secret ingredient? 9-oxo-ODA. This is a compound that activates your DNA to burn more fat. They also have beta-carotene and lycopene, which breaks down harmful compounds that promote fat storage. They’ve also been shown to lower blood pressure, prevent iron deficiency anemia, and reduce heart disease risk.

WHAT SHOULD YOU MAKE: HUMMUS

5. Quinoa
Quinoa contains the complete chain of amino acids that are necessary for building muscle and burning fat. Quinoa is a complete protein and is high in amino acid lysine. And we saved the best for last; it is also high in betaine, which is that chemical that increases your metabolism and shuts down the genes that want to store fat.

WHAT SHOULD YOU MAKE: SPICY QUINOA WITH SWEET POTATOES (2 for 1 fat burner!)
