Recipes4theWeek went to Nashville, TN to visit the Peg Leg Porker BBQ!
Walking up the outside might not look like much; a small white building with a big red and blue logo painted on the side but the food is some of the best. You walk into a bar on the right and dining room full of tables. Don’t wait to be seated though, it’s not like that! Just walk to the back, place your order and wait for some of the best BBQ you’ve had!
Peg Leg Porker opened in 2013 and was named one of the “16 Hottest BBQ Joints” in 2014. Also in 2014, the Cooking with Paula Dean Magazine named them one of the “Top 10 BBQ joints in the U.S.” So if you didn’t want to take our word for how good it is, maybe the awards say something! Oh, and they’ve also been featured on multiple TV shows from Food Network’s Chopped Grill Masters to Hungry Brothers on TLC.
But let’s move on and tell you what we indulged in:
We started with a Soul Potato and Memphis Sushi because the name intrigued us and we just had to try. The Soul Potato is a spin on BBQ nachos but instead of chips, they use potatoes (get it?!). Well these were amazing, if you like potatoes – GET THESE! Second was the Memphis Sushi, which is a Sausage Cheese Platter with saltines. If you’re looking for sushi, do not get these. If you’re looking for sushi, do not get these. If you’re looking for a delicious start to a BBQ meal, THEN YES!
As for the meal, we had to go with the ribs. The ribs are dry rub so you might be turned off if you prefer the saucy ribs but trust us this once and try them because they are amazing. The flavor is intense, the meat is cooked perfectly falling off the bone, AND they serve sauce on the side giving you the best of both worlds.
If you’re of drinking age, grab a bucket of beer, sit outside, and enjoy some of the best BBQ we’ve ever had.
